IT support that actually feels local

Most Birmingham businesses don't need a 1,000-engineer national IT outsourcer. They need someone who picks up the phone, knows the setup, and can be in the office before lunch when something breaks. That is the gap LeapIT has been filling for Birmingham businesses for over a decade.

We are a Solihull-headquartered managed service provider supporting hundreds of users across Birmingham, from law firms in Colmore Row and the Jewellery Quarter, to manufacturers in Aston and Witton, to independent schools in Sutton Coldfield. We run their helpdesk, their Microsoft 365 environment, their cyber security in Birmingham, their phones and their networks, all under one fixed monthly fee per user.

Most Birmingham enquiries we get start the same way: nobody answered the phone, or the last engineer left no notes behind. The rest of this page is the detail people usually have to ask for, which districts we cover, what sits in the monthly fee, how long we take to reach you, and what changing provider involves.

Why a local Birmingham MSP matters

Anyone can run a remote helpdesk. The difference shows up the moment you actually need a person on site.

10 miles from Birmingham city centre

Our office at Hockley Heath, Solihull is a straight run up the A34 / A435, engineers reach Edgbaston, Digbeth and the Jewellery Quarter inside an hour off-peak.

We know Birmingham's office stock

From Colmore Row serviced offices to industrial units in Aston and Tyseley, we've installed networks in all of it, including the dreaded thick brick walls of older Brindleyplace and converted warehouse spaces.

We work with Birmingham's mix

Law firms in Birmingham city centre, manufacturers around Witton, healthcare practices in Edgbaston, schools across Sutton Coldfield, retail in the Bullring catchment. Different industries, same standard of service.

Fast escalation, no ticket black holes

Every Birmingham client has a named account contact. If a ticket isn't moving, you ring us. You won't get bounced through a portal queue, that's the whole point of working with a regional MSP.

Supporting Birmingham

What working with us looks like in Birmingham

Straight answers on outcomes, response times and accreditations, nothing dressed up.

Local outcomes

  • Moved a Colmore Row professional services firm off an end-of-life server to Microsoft 365 and SharePoint over a weekend, with no lost working time.
  • Took over support for a Jewellery Quarter business mid-contract, cleared the inherited ticket queue the same week and documented the environment inside 30 days.
  • Rolled out MFA, managed backup and endpoint protection for a city centre practice ahead of an insurer's security questionnaire.
  • Replaced an unreliable phone system with 3CX for a multi-site Birmingham business so calls follow staff between the office and home.

Examples from client work across Birmingham and the surrounding districts. Client names withheld for confidentiality, we will walk you through references on a call. Read our published case studies.

What changing provider looks like from your side

The usual worry is downtime and a fight with the incumbent. In practice most Birmingham handovers are dull, and we keep them that way on purpose.

  1. 1. An hour at your office

We come to you, city centre, Jewellery Quarter, Aston, wherever you are, and go through the network, the Microsoft 365 tenant, backups, admin accounts, broadband and phone contracts, and the faults your staff have learned to live with. You get the findings written up whether you hire us or not.

  2. 2. One price, in plain English

A per-user, per-month figure within about a week, covering helpdesk, on-site visits, monitoring and security tooling. We list the few things that sit outside it (major projects, hardware) rather than surprising you with an out-of-scope invoice in month three.

  3. 3. Roughly 30 days of overlap

We take on your open tickets from day one, document an environment that has usually never been written down, deploy monitoring, backup and endpoint protection, and handle the handover with your existing provider, including the awkward bit, if you'd rather not.

  4. 4. Once you're live

The helpdesk answers on the same number every time, you get a named account manager who has been to your building, on-site days go in the diary, and every quarter we sit down with ticket trends, security posture and a straight answer on what needs replacing next.

What does IT support cost in Birmingham?

We price managed IT the same way for every Birmingham client: a fixed figure per user, per month. What moves that figure is how many people you have and which services sit inside the agreement, helpdesk only at one end, through to helpdesk plus security tooling, backup, monitoring, phones and on-site days at the other. A ten-person firm in the Jewellery Quarter and a ninety-person manufacturer in Aston are not paying the same rate, and neither should be.

The number you agree is the number you pay. Unlimited helpdesk and the on-site visits that go with it are inside the fee, not billed by the hour, and the handful of things that sit outside it, major projects and hardware purchases mainly, are listed in writing before you sign rather than turning up as an out-of-scope invoice in month three. Contracts are flexible, so you are not tied into a five-year term to get a sensible rate.

The starting point is a free IT health check. An engineer spends an hour at your Birmingham office, documents what you actually have, and you get a written summary and a clear fixed quote, whether or not you go ahead. If you are a smaller team, our small business IT support is usually the right fit; if you are replacing an internal IT function altogether, look at outsourced IT support.

In-house IT vs a Birmingham MSP

We will be straight about this: in-house IT is the right answer for some organisations. If you are large enough to employ a team, or you run bespoke systems that need someone in the building every day, a permanent hire earns its keep. For most Birmingham SMEs between ten and a hundred and fifty staff, the maths tends to point the other way.

One in-house IT hireLeapIT managed support
Annual costSalary plus employer NI, pension, training, recruitment and holiday coverA fixed monthly fee per user, typically a fraction of a single IT salary
Coverage hoursTheir working day, minus meetings, leave and sick daysHelpdesk 8:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday, 24/7 monitoring, out-of-hours cover by retainer
Breadth of expertiseStrong in one or two areas, gaps everywhere elseNetworking, Microsoft 365, cyber security, VoIP, backup and cloud specialists on one team
Holiday and sickness coverNobody, unless you pay for a second person or ad-hoc contractorsBuilt in, another engineer already knows your environment
ScalabilityAdding users means recruiting again, months of lead timeAdd or remove users month to month as headcount changes

Plenty of our Birmingham clients run a hybrid: one internal IT person handling day-to-day user requests, with us behind them for security, infrastructure projects, out-of-hours and the specialist work no single hire can cover.

The 2027 PSTN switch-off: is your Birmingham business ready?

BT and Openreach are retiring the traditional copper telephone network in January 2027. When that happens, analogue lines and ISDN circuits stop working, and anything hanging off them goes with them: the phone system itself, but also door entry, lift alarms, fire panels, card machines and the fax line nobody admits to still using. Older Birmingham premises, the converted Jewellery Quarter units and the industrial stock around Aston and Witton especially, tend to have more of these than anyone expects.

Moving to internet-based calling ahead of the deadline is straightforward if it is planned, and expensive if it is left until lines start going dark. We audit every line at your site, not just the phone system, then design and deliver the move to business VoIP and phone systems, porting your existing numbers, configuring call routing, moving the alarms and intercoms onto a supported path, and training your staff. We handle the migration end to end, so nothing is left for you to chase with a telecoms provider.

FAQ

Birmingham IT Support FAQ

From our Solihull HQ in Hockley Heath, we typically reach Birmingham city centre in under an hour off-peak and are usually on-site within 2 hours for critical issues. For pre-booked work we'll agree a specific arrival window. Most day-to-day support is handled remotely within minutes.

We don't run a separate Birmingham office, our headquarters is at Unit 16 Hockley Court, Solihull, around 10 miles south of the city centre. That's deliberate: one well-staffed engineering team in one location gives our Birmingham clients faster, more consistent support than splitting the team across two sites would.

We don't publish prices because every business is different, a 12-person law firm in Colmore Row has very different needs to a 60-seat warehouse in Aston. Pricing is per-user per-month with everything included (helpdesk, on-site visits, monitoring, security tooling). Book a free IT health check and we'll give you a fixed proposal within a week.

Yes, we onboard new clients from incumbent providers regularly. We do a full audit (network, Microsoft 365 tenant, security posture, documentation), agree a 30-day transition plan, and handle the awkward conversation with your existing provider if you'd rather we did. No service gap.

Yes, many of our clients have head offices in Birmingham plus satellite sites in Solihull, Coventry, Worcester, the Black Country or further afield. We provide one helpdesk, one account manager and consistent service across all locations.

Managed clients have access to out-of-hours emergency cover for genuine business-stopping incidents (server down, ransomware, full internet outage). It's not a 24/7 helpdesk, that's not honest for a business our size, but the people who answer your call know your environment.

Yes, LeapIT holds Cyber Essentials Plus and we help our Birmingham clients achieve and renew their own certification, including the readiness work, the audit, and remediation of any failure points.

Office moves are something we do regularly. We'll plan the network in advance, coordinate with the building's incoming connectivity provider, schedule the physical kit move out of hours, and make sure the team can work the moment they arrive on Monday. We've done moves into Brindleyplace, the Mailbox, Snow Hill and several Jewellery Quarter conversions.

Yes. We manage the tenant, licensing mix and security settings for most of our Birmingham clients, including Business Premium rollouts, conditional access, MFA enforcement and SharePoint/OneDrive structure. If you buy your licences elsewhere we will still administer them.

Yes, and it is worth involving us early. City centre and Jewellery Quarter buildings vary hugely: some have structured cabling and a decent riser, others need everything pulling in. We survey the new space, order the circuit (lead times of 30 to 90 days are normal for a leased line), plan the cabinet, and do the physical move outside working hours.
