Why UniFi for Business WiFi?
Ubiquiti's UniFi range is the platform we deploy most often for SME wireless networks. It's the right balance of price, performance and manageability for businesses with 10 to 250 users, and unlike consumer mesh kits, it's built to handle dozens of simultaneous devices without falling over.
Every UniFi access point reports back to a central controller, giving us full visibility of who's connected, signal strength, channel utilisation and which devices are misbehaving. When something goes wrong, we can diagnose it in minutes from our office rather than driving out to wiggle a router.
For businesses across Birmingham, Solihull and the West Midlands, UniFi is our default recommendation when an existing WiFi network is unreliable, doesn't reach the whole office, or can't handle the number of devices staff actually use.
How We Design a UniFi Network
Good WiFi isn't about buying the most expensive kit, it's about putting the right access points in the right places. Our process:
- Site survey, We walk the building, map signal coverage, identify dead zones and note construction materials (steel, plasterboard, glass partitions all behave differently)
- Capacity planning, How many concurrent devices? What's the mix of laptops, phones, IoT, video calls? This drives access point count, not just square footage
- Channel & SSID design, Separate networks for staff, guests, and IoT/printers so a compromised device can't reach business systems
- Cable runs, UniFi APs are PoE-powered, so we plan structured cabling to each AP location, terminated to a managed PoE switch
- Installation & configuration, Mounted properly (ceiling not skirting), configured against your security policy, with VLANs separating traffic
- Ongoing management, Hosted on our UniFi controller so we monitor, patch and tune without you needing to think about it
What Goes With UniFi
UniFi WiFi works best as part of a properly designed network. Most of our deployments include:
- UniFi Switches, PoE+ managed switches that power the APs and segment traffic with VLANs
- UniFi Gateway / Cloud Gateway, Routing, basic firewalling and inter-VLAN policy. For higher security needs we pair UniFi with a WatchGuard firewall at the perimeter
- Guest Portal, Branded splash page for visitors with terms acceptance, isolated from your business network
- Captive portal with vouchers, Time-limited guest access for clients or contractors
This pairs well with 3CX phone systems (which often use the same network for VoIP) and our broader IT support agreements.
What's Included
Pre-Install Site Survey
We map the building, identify dead zones and design coverage before quoting, no guesswork.
Centrally Managed
Hosted UniFi controller gives us full visibility and remote management of every AP, switch and gateway.
Guest WiFi with Splash Page
Branded captive portal isolates visitor traffic from your business network.
VLAN Segmentation
Separate networks for staff, guests, IoT and printers, security best practice baked in.
PoE Switching Included
Quotes include managed PoE+ switches and cabling, not just the access points.
Ongoing Monitoring
Proactive alerting on AP health, client issues and WAN connectivity as part of your support agreement.

UniFi WiFi Network Design & Installation, FAQs
It depends on building size, construction materials and how many devices connect at once. As a rough guide, one AP per 1,500–2,500 sq ft of office space, but we always do a proper site survey before quoting, it's the only way to get it right.
Yes, UniFi gateways can replace consumer routers entirely. We typically pair the UniFi Cloud Gateway or Dream Machine with a managed switch and APs for a fully unified setup. For higher security needs we add a WatchGuard firewall in front.
Absolutely, when designed and installed properly. UniFi runs the WiFi at venues with thousands of users. The reliability problems people associate with it usually come from DIY installs with too few APs, poor placement or mismatched firmware.
Yes. If you've inherited a UniFi setup we can adopt it onto our controller, audit the configuration, and take over day-to-day management. Many networks we adopt have firmware months out of date and easy wins on channel allocation.
Yes, and they should be. We deploy a separate guest VLAN and SSID with a captive portal. Guests can reach the internet but not your servers, printers or staff devices. This is standard on every install we do.
