Cloud Backup & Disaster Recovery
Your data is backed up every day. But have you ever tested a restore? We make sure your backups actually work, because the worst time to find out is during a crisis.

Why Backup & Disaster Recovery Matters
Data loss happens more often than people think. Hardware failure, accidental deletion, ransomware attacks, fire, flood, any of these can wipe out critical business data. Without proper backups and a tested recovery plan, the average business takes 23 days to recover from a major data loss event. Many never recover at all.
At LeapIT, we implement backup solutions that are automated, encrypted, tested regularly, and, critically, actually recoverable. We don't just tick the "backup" box and walk away. We test restores quarterly and prove to you that your data can be recovered within agreed timeframes.
Our Backup Strategy
We follow the 3-2-1 backup principle: three copies of your data, on two different types of media, with one copy stored off-site. For cloud-first businesses, this translates to:
- Microsoft 365 Backup, Mailboxes, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams data backed up independently from Microsoft's built-in retention
- Server & Endpoint Backup, Image-based backups of on-premise servers and critical workstations
- Cloud-to-Cloud Backup, SaaS data from platforms like CRM, accounting, and line-of-business applications
- Immutable Storage, Backup copies that can't be encrypted, modified, or deleted by ransomware
All backups are encrypted in transit and at rest, with access limited to authorised personnel. This is part of our broader cloud support and cyber security approach.
Disaster Recovery Planning
A backup is only as good as your ability to restore from it. Our disaster recovery planning goes beyond backups to cover:
- Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), How quickly can each system be back online?
- Recovery Point Objectives (RPO), How much data can you afford to lose? (We aim for less than 1 hour)
- Documented Runbooks, Step-by-step recovery procedures so the process doesn't depend on memory
- Regular Testing, Quarterly restore tests to prove your backups actually work
For healthcare and financial services clients, we also help with compliance documentation for regulatory requirements around data protection and business continuity.

Cloud Backup & Disaster Recovery, FAQs
No. Microsoft provides high availability and short-term retention, but they explicitly state that data protection is the customer's responsibility. Accidental deletions, malicious insiders, and ransomware can permanently destroy M365 data without independent backup.
We typically configure backups to run multiple times daily for critical systems, with daily backups for less critical data. The right frequency depends on your RPO, how much data you can afford to lose.
Individual file restores take minutes. Full system restores depend on data volume but are typically completed within 2-8 hours. We document expected recovery times for every system as part of your disaster recovery plan.
